Job purpose:

  • Provide production support services to users of the company’s various applications, in addition to supporting future system development initiatives. Primarily focusing on our Hire, Rental and Sales solutions, mainly based on Microsoft Navision/Business Central.
  • Activities include gathering and analysing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and system requirements, leading to technical solution definition and managing through to development and testing to acceptance.
  • Responsible for generating and compiling information and reports based on findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions or recommendations around system or process issues.
  • Also includes second line user support and problem identification and resolution.
  • This position will require the individual to apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximise the benefit of IT system investments. While the breadth of the role covers several applications, experience with Microsoft Navision/Business Central is essential.
  • To work in a safe and sensible manner within the boundaries of the Company Health and Safety Policy and any additional site restrictions.

Reporting to:

The Senior Business Application Analyst reports directly to the IT Director of the ENSE Business Unit.

Main organisational relationships:

Establishing excellent working relationships with stakeholders in Finance, Operations and Rental business is essential.

This role will also require a strong relationship with other IT experts to share experiences, best practices and to participate to Group solution developments based on Navision/Business Central.

A close relationship will be required with

  • The ENSE Business Application Analysts to drive changes on ENSE business applications
  • The IT support team (Service Desk) as well as with the Infrastructure team and the BI & Reporting team.

Functional & Operational roles and responsibilities:

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Provide functional and process support for Microsoft Navision/Business Central based solutions, in Finance or Rental/Operations domains.
  • Translate business needs in IT specifications.
  • Work with external support companies to resolve application issues and deliver application changes.
  • Differentiate between activities that can be accomplished internally and those that should be addressed externally.
  • Working with other applications and reporting solutions as required.
  • Managing change using established processes and methodologies (based on ITIL).

Main tasks:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform troubleshooting, investigation, analysis, and evaluation of escalated (day-to-day) problems to resolve system issues and track these issues using our ITSM tool (Easyvista).
  • Work with the key business stakeholders (user community) and technical staff to develop permanent solutions to identified problems or enhancements to existing business applications.
  • Review and analyse the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Understand the role of work processes; work with the business to simplify and standardize business processes that will meet the user community’s needs.
  • Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operating systems across the organization.
  • Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications, and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations/rental business requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
  • Identify and establish scope and parameters of systems analysis in order to define outcome criteria and measure-taking actions.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews and regression testing, for modified and new systems, and other post-implementation support.
  • Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
  • Work with the User community to ensure functional scripts are used for testing and training, user manuals are developed and/or updated to reflect the current state of business software, and develop and/or maintenance test cases to ensure the proper scenarios are tested in order to fully test functionality of the software application.
  • Work with the User community to gather requirements for new development requests, analyze their needs, and suggest process improvements in order for them to effectively adapt their processes to the new software
  • Provide regular updates to your Manager on priorities, results, successes, and issues.
  • Ensure that all necessary work is adequately addressed within required timeframes, and that customer needs and process quality measures are met.
  • Provide ad-hoc documentation for Level-1 and Level-2 support
  • Understand the Information Systems infrastructure and how it relates to our current systems and future development initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Apply analysis tools and techniques to increase quality, productivity and overall effectiveness of support responsibilities.
  • Apply extensive practical knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts.
  • Assist in the creation of systems models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction and guidance to development resources.
  • Identify and work to obtain the training and technical skills needed to successfully assist the business in identification, assessment, and resolution of production support issues.
  • Maintain communications and develop a strong working relationship with the User community, technical resources, and project teams in order to deliver effective and timely solutions to changing business needs.
  • Provide guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members.
  • Work to understand and support the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
  • Communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Maintain a strong customer service focus.
  • Adhere to all business department policies on information security and confidentiality.

Key criteria for success:

Success in 6 months will include:

  • Obtaining a working understanding of the companies current IT landscape: Navision, 4PS and iAnalytics.
  • Establishing excellent working relationships with stakeholders in Finance, Sales and Rental/Operations business.

Success in 1 year will include:

  • Having sufficient knowledge and experience of the companies systems and processes to deliver high quality solutions with minimum technical guidance and a high level of problem solving capability within core systems and processes.

Success in 3 years will include:

  • Gaining sufficient experience and a track record for delivery that supports taking a key role in upgrading Navision and other systems to later versions, which could encompass taking a lead on re-defining robust and integrated business processes to efficiently align with the latest application solutions.
